Delta Co. Marines came under sniper fire from a cane field located at BS 588926. Sniper fired several shots on the advancing Marines from about 75 meters. L/Cpl. Solorzano was shot through the throat and died within minutes. Sgt. Williams was grazed on the arm. The VC sniper escaped to the southwest through the cane field. Med Evacuation for dead Marine completed at 11:54 hrs.

Delta Co. Moved out of the perimeter on Objective "B" with the mission of making a rapid search through TAN PHUOC (2) in zone and to seize Objective "F". The company was followed by Bravo company , which would perform the detailed search and clear at 06:58 hrs.

Delta Co. Had collected 20 VCS and had completed its mission. Retraction was delayed while waiting for helicopter evacuation of VCS at 11:15 hrs. Eventually, sufficient helicopters became available to retract the entire company. This commenced at 13:05 hrs. at which time all Co D elements were back at the Enclave MLR at 14:00 hrs.

Delta Co. Patrol reported at 14:30 hrs. vicinity BS 585947 receiving one round of fire from one VC. Returned fire, VC broke contact, Patrol continued mission at 19:00 hrs.

Delta Co. Patrol reported at 14:50 hrs. vicinity BS 582942 receiving 30-40 rounds of fire from four to six VC. VC were armed with M-1's, Carbines and MAS-36. Patrol deployed and returned fire killing one and wounding two. VC broke contact and left the area. Patrol left dead VC with local villagers. Patrol found the following: 4-8 round clips of M-1 ammunition with a bandolier, one magazine for a MAS-36 with nine rounds, medicines, bandages and one non-electric blasting cap with wire. In the Hamlet of CHAU-TU (6) A sign written in English was found which said, “Death follows your every step you take in the path of war”. Material will be forwarded on first available transportation. Reported at 19:00 hrs.

9 November: Page 124.
Delta Co. Patrol reported at 15:15 hrs. vicinity BS 582942 received one round of fire. Returned fire, results unknown. Patrol then swept through the Hamlet and found blood trails that appeared to be left by the two wounded VC at 19:00 hrs.

Delta Co. Patrol reported vicinity BS 577946 received four rounds of fire from two VC armed with two carbines. Patrol deployed and returned fire, VC broke contact. Patrol continued mission. 15:00 hrs.

Delta Co. Reported their Roadblock while checking people passing through noticed a dog tag around the neck of a Vietnamese woman. Sentry removed the tag and allowed the woman to pass through. Tag belongs to Eleam, John W. RA 14529547, Blood type O, Baptist. Sentry informed to apprehend woman if she approaches the Roadblock again at 10:30 hrs.

Delta Co. Combat/Recon 17 Man, 1 Corpsman Patrol led by Sgt. Fazzio. Left at 14:25 hrs. Returned 17:00 hrs.

Delta Co. Reported at 15:30 hrs. vicinity BT 555012 The Wire Repair Team observed two VC vicinity. BT 551011. The VC were armed with carbines. Marines fired on the VC, who returned three rounds of fire. The VC broke contact and moved to the high ground to the SW. Repair Team continued their mission at 19:35 hrs.

12 November: Page 138.
Delta Co. Roadblock at 13:15 hrs. while checking people passing through the Roadblock, checked a woman who had a box. The box contained drugs and SYRETTES. The woman and the box were forwarded to Booth Collection Point. During interrogation it was found that she had permission from a Doctor to buy the drugs and certification from the government of VIETNAM. Woman was processed through ITT for further checking at 13:45 hrs.

Delta Co. Reported A Fire Team was cutting wood vicinity BT 558019 when they observed a path leading to a clump of bushes. The Fire Team checked the path and found two sets of footprints, one PUNJI trap (very old) and a rice bed which could possibly be a Sniper position. An incident report was completed for further information at 17:30 hrs.

Delta Co. Combat/Recon 16 Man, 1 Corpsman Patrol led by Sgt. Tapp. Left at 07:20 hrs. Returned 09:15 hrs.

Delta Co. Patrol reported at 15:05 hrs. vicinity BS 585938 receiving 15 rounds of carbine fire from vicinity coord. BS 578937. Patrol returned 100 rounds of fire causing the VC to break contact. Patrol searched the area with negative results at 16:45 hrs.

15 November: Page 159.
Delta Co. Combat/Recon 32 Man Patrol led by S/Sgt. Fairchild. Left at 14:00 hrs. At 15:05 at BS 578937 Fired on by approximately 7 VC with AR and Semi Automatic weapons. Was hit while crossing an unavoidable cleared area. After this fire from this position the patrol received fire from the following positions BS 585934- BS 578942. The tactics they used were boxing us in on three sides. With a very high volume of fire drove the VC from their front. Fragments from a 3.5 hit a building and for approximately 20 minutes there were small arms explosions from inside the burning building. The artillery FO from his position ( BS 574962) observed 7 men running from the area to the West. Dress was black clothes and NO Hats, could determine that two were armed, the rest were moving too fast to tell. At 16:05 at BS 576943 Received from 60-80 rounds while returning on patrol route. There were 4-5 VC. After returning a heavy volume of fire the VC broke contact and withdrew to the West. Returned from patrol at 17:45 hrs.

15 November: Page 154.
Delta Co. Patrol Reported at 15:04 hrs. vicinity BS 578942 and BS 585937 being fired upon by 11 VC from vicinity BS 578937 and BS 585934. The VC were armed with carbines and AR'S. VC fired approximately 150 rounds, the patrol returned approximately 280 rounds, 5-M-79 and 3-3.5 WP rounds. Patrol then started a search and clear toward the Hamlet where the fire came from. One of the 3.5 rounds had started a fire in one of the houses which spread to two other houses. As the patrol approached the first burning house they heard what sounded like small ammunition exploding. The explosions continued for approximately 25 minutes. One VC was possibly wounded during the firefight at 18:55 hrs.

Delta Co. Patrol Reported at 16:05 hrs. vicinity BS 579943 when leaving the Hamlet of CHAU TU (6) Patrol received 60-80 rounds of fire from vicinity BS 576943 (from the rear). Patrol turned around and deployed toward the Hamlet. The VC were observed withdrawing in a WESTERLY direction, away from the Hamlet at 19:00 hrs.

Delta Co. Patrol Reported at 15:05 hrs. vicinity BS 582947 the Artillery FO observed two VC vicinity BS 576946. The VC were armed with weapons (unable to determine type) and trying to work their way behind the patrol. The VC were dressed in black. The Artillery FO Team moved off their position toward the VC and approached to within 300-400 meters of them. The FO team then fired 4 rounds. The VC disappeared into the cane patch, moving in a WESTERLY direction at 15:15 hrs.

16 November: Page 164.
Delta Co. Combat/Recon 32 Man Patrol led by S/Sgt. Fairchild. Left at 14:00 hrs. At 15:05 hrs. at BS 578952 As Bloodhound was moving south on patrol route the Artillery FO from his OP observed two VC armed with weapons running north on the west side of railroad tracks BS 575949 trying to work their way to the flank and rear of the patrol, (under cover of the railroad tracks). The Artillery FO and his team moved to position ( BS574958) and fired three rounds at the VC all missing the target. The VC then dove into the cane field and headed west. The VC did not get a chance to fire on the patrol. They were dressed in black PJ's and No Hats. Type of weapons unknown. At 15:15 hrs. at coord. BS 583948 As Bloodhound #1 was making a quick search of buildings, two anti-American Propaganda leaflets were found stuck in trees along the trail. Patrol returned at 16:05 hrs.

17 November: Page 161.
Delta Co. Reported at 00:45 hrs. vicinity BT 558019 a VC fired two rounds of carbine fire into Company lines. VC was located at above coord. At 01:22 hrs.

Delta Co. Combat/Recon 10 Man, 1 Corpsman Patrol led by Cpl. Trotter. Left at 06:30 hrs. Returned 09:30 hrs.

Delta Co. Combat/Recon 15 Man, 1 Corpsman, 1 ARVN Patrol led by Cpl. Henson. Left at 07:00 hrs. Returned at 09:00 hrs.

Delta Co. Informed this section that at 13:00 hrs. Mr. Phu of Nuoc man informed their combat outpost that 100 VC were located at vicinity BS 582933 at 13:40 hrs.

Delta Co. Reported their combat outpost at 14:45 hrs. vicinity BS 574970 fired seven, 106 rounds at eight armed VC on railroad tracks vicinity BS 544959 killing one and wounding two. Additional mission fired approximately five minutes later on four VC attempting to cross railroad tracks. One VC observed killed at 19:40 hrs.

18 November: Page 168.
Delta Co. Reported their patrol had been engaged in a fire fight at 15:15 hrs. vicinity BS 583940. Eight VC fired 40-60 rounds of carbine fire from vicinity BS 583940 and 577940 total VC force estimated at 12 VC. At 16:10 hrs. on the way through the Hamlet located vicinity BS 573938 VC fired on patrol, approx. six VC fired 15-25 rounds of carbine fire at patrol. Marines returned approx. 150 rounds of M-14 and 5 rounds of 3.5 during both actions. Resulting in no known VC killed, but an unknown number of possible wounded. No weapons or equipment found, however three pieces of paper were found by railroad tracks indicating team positions of Mr. Lan, Mr. Can and Mr. Su. Interpreter states teams number three men each indicating there were probably a VC positioned to the left of the railroad tracks at the time of the 106 action, reported above. Reported at 19:40 hrs.

Delta Co. Patrol Reported at 15:20 vicinity BS 576940 apprehending two VCS that were in the immediate area during action as stated in the above entry. In addition patrol removed two Anti-American Propaganda Posters that were displayed in the Hamlet of PHU LE (1) at 19:40 hrs.

Delta Co. Reported at 19:30 vicinity BT 561014 received one incoming hand grenade. Illumination fired, 81's observed one man vicinity BT 560014 at 20:00 hrs.

Delta Co. 32 man combat patrol left at 14:00 hrs. led by Lt. Hayward. 8 VC fired on patrol as we crossed rice paddy from two directions. VC hit both our left & right flank, first direction was from tail end of hamlet CHU TU-6 at BS 533940 & from right flank of hamlet at BS 577940 VC attempted to get us in a Minuet ambush but we assaulted the position. Second VC group of 8 to 12 hit us after we were ¾ of the way through the hamlet, Rosemont AO observed 4 VC in a trench line at BS 569938 as they were covering the escape of the first group of VC. 2 VC killed and 4 wounded in this action. 17:15 hrs.

19 November: Page 174.
Delta Co. Reported that at BS 574993,BS 575945,BS 575941 & BS 575942 while moving into PHU LE -1 the patrol received fire from four to five VC to the right flank and rear, the VC were armed with automatic rifles and carbines, dressed in black without hats, the patrol received 20 rounds from the VC and returned fire, Marines fired (35) M-14 rounds (1) 3.5 rocket launcher wp. Round & (19) M-79 rounds. 1 VC was observed climbing a tree and was fired on by the 3.5 rocket team (direct hit on armed VC) 19:00 hrs.

Delta Co. 32 man patrol left at 13:00 hrs. led by Lt. Pannell. Encountered three VC. On patrol at BS 585946 at 14:10 hrs. at BS 585930 at 14:30 and at BS 574958 at 14:45 hrs. “1 VC Running through cane field & 2 VC Snipers. 1 VC Killed & 2 VC Wounded. 16:00 Hrs.

Patrol observed 3 VC running along dike at 09:30 hrs. with weapons (carbines) patrol fired on VC that withdrew into a cane field, the patrol followed the VC Again observing them, killed 1 VC before patrol could get to the body the other VC. Picked up his rifle and withdrew in to the hamlet. Patrol could not fire on them as women and children in area. 11:00 hrs.

Broke contact when we called in the 106 RR. Patrol continued into PHU LE -1 and searched the hamlet with Neg. Find. Patrol returned to CHU TU hamlet and observed 3 VC the VC did not observe us & we opened fire & the VC withdrew, patrol pursued Killing the 3 VC at BS 583947 and captured 1 M-1 Rifle and 1 Carbine Rifle. 11:45 hrs.

Delta Co. 42 man combat patrol left at 08:45 hrs. Led by Sgt. McNeil. Patrol came under heavy fire from coord. BS 581939 from 15-20 weapons of all types, patrol laid down heavy return fire to cover and assist in pulling out recon patrol that was pinned down in the village of PHU LE -1.
