Delta Co. Patrol left at 13:00 hrs. led by Lt. Hayward. Patrol entered PHU LE -1, found village empty of all people, patrol
found 1 105 MM Dud round & requested EOD from Delta rear, patrol attempted to blow a hole in fence with an M-79 grenade,
1 man slightly wounded in arm. During search of village a WP grenade set fire to several houses when thrown into tunnel.
Patrol picked up 1 VCS outside village and returned him to base camp. 16:15 hrs.

Delta Co. Patrol observed 1 VC running into cane field at BS 576943 patrol fired 3 rounds of small arms fire & conducted a

Delta Co. Patrol left at 12:30 hrs. Led by Lt. Hayward. Patrol conducted fire fight with 8-12 VC in PHU LE -1, received automatic
and semi automatic weapons fire. Laid down a field of fire and called for 81 Mortars and 106 RR. for support, support was slow
allowing VC to escape. Village burned as result of 3.5 use in village. Wounded 1 VC (found hat with blood and hole in it) 2 Marines
were wounded PFC. Caruso was shot through the thigh and an unknown Marine had slight wound from a panji stake. 16:45 hrs.

Delta Co. Patrol left at 13:15 hrs. Led by S/Sgt. Nelson. Patrol point man made contact with 1 VC at BS 569944. Point man fired at
VC but all rounds missed and VC escaped. 16:45 hrs.

Delta Co. Patrol found one 60 MM mortar round at BS 583948. Round was covered with paper and no wires could be seen, patrol
backed off and fired 3 LAW rounds at it with negative results. 14:45 hrs.

Delta Co. 32 man patrol left at 08:30 hrs. Led by S/Sgt. Nelson. On the west side of PHU LE -1 a VC fired on patrol from BS 574938.
The fire wounded the point man, approximately 5 more VC opened fire from BS 573936. The VC were armed with small arms and
automatic weapons & fired approximately 100 rounds at our position. Patrol returned fire and the VC withdrew before the patrol
could assualt. One Marine wounded In fire fight. 11:00 hrs.

Delta Co. Security Plt. reported that from 09:00 hrs. Through 17:00 hrs at half hour intervals while in the vicinity of BS 015323
receiving approx. 500 rounds of automatic and M-1 rifle fire, from apx. 15 VC located at BT 005325. The VC were wearing Khaki
Uniforms and Steel Helmets, the plt. 1 Marine was wounded (Cpl. William A. Jennings Gun shot wound to the Chest) and 4 VC
were wounded in the fighting. 17:00 hrs.

Delta Co. Is furnishing a platoon as helicopter security for a helicopter down in a landing zone 28 miles south west of TAM KY.
The platoon departed the Battalion area at 091940H by helicopter and the platoon is currently under the operational control of the
2nd Battalion 7th Marines. To support the MLR, the security platoon of NUOC MAN at BS 574970, was withdrawn to the MLR at
092130H. In addition, 12 men and four machine guns of Company "B", 1st Tank Battalion were integrated into the MLR at 091940H.
The company maintained one fire team at BT 565015, OP#10, BS 562998, and the traffic control point, BT 555017. The company
dispatched it's security platoon (-) combat patrol. The company had no contact.

Delta Co. Will continue to furnish security for the Hamlet of NUOC MAN upon the return of the platoon under the operational control
of the 2nd Battalion 7th Marines. The company will continue to conduct patrolling, maintain OP#10, the traffic control point, and one LP.

Delta Co. Information received late from Company "D": Between the hours of 100900H the 3rd platoon, attached to the 2nd Battalion
7th Marines, was attacked at BT 015323, by approximately 15 VC wearing kaki uniformsand steel helmets. They were armed with AR's
and firing armor piercing ammunition. During the aforementioned time fram, approximately 500 rounds were fired by the VC. The platoon
returned fire expending approximately 600-700 rounds. During the firefight one Marine was wounded Cpl. William A. Jennings, (Gun shot
wound to the chest) and four VC were wounded in the fighting.

Delta Co. 32 man patrol left at 11:00 hrs. Led by S/Sgt. Nelson. Upon entering CHAU TU -4 the patrol observed 3 VC walking
down the road at BS 584948, one armed with an M-1 Rifle and one with a Carbine Rifle. The point man fired on the 3 VC wounding
1, the VC got up and all 3 ran into a cane field, Search of area revealed Blood and bits of flesh & Intestines. A fire team went after
the 3 VC but lost contact. 13:35 hrs.

contact, as the patrol left the village and proceded down the road, the road came to a fork at BS 583938. Marines took the
right hand fork and a booby trap exploded Killing L/Cpl. Worman & Wounding 4 other Marines. Booby Trap Is believed to
be a 60 or 81 MM mortar round, that was set in the side of a bank, patrol leader not sure how booby trap was detonated.
Combat patrol from 3/7 passed within 100 yards of our patrol and after hearing explosion came to assist. Delta Co. Patrol
lost radio contact and was assisted with calling in med evac'd. All Marines wounded and KIA Marine med evaced in 15 min.
At this time 3 VC were observed entering the cane field at BS 583938. Patrol opened fire with unknown results. 16:30 hrs.

Delta Co. Reported that a combat patrol had a 60 MM mortar round pass over their heads at BS 561998 the round
did not explode and the Outpost thinks it came from the area of PHU LE at BS 570939.

Delta Co. Patrol reported at 09:20 hrs. vicinity BS 626897, apprehended two VCS. One for running away from the
patrol, the other in the same area. Neither of the VCS had ID cards. The first was apprehended after a warning shot
was fired. The second was apprehended without trouble at 21:00 hrs.

Delta Co. Patrol reported at 09:25 hrs. BS 634895, receiving five rounds of carbine fire from unknown number of VC
located vicinity BS 638896 and BS 638892. The VC were dressed in Black PJ's, cartridge belts and helmets. Patrol
returned 15 rounds of M-14 fire and three M-79 rounds. Searched the area with a negative find at 21:00 hrs.
28 December: Page 152.
Delta Co. Patrol reported at 13:15 hrs. vicinity BS 644936, receiving fire from twelve VC. The VC were located at three
different positions. Six VC were on a road vicinity BS 645936. Upon observing the patrol they turned and ran to the northeast.
Three were armed with carbines. Four were located vicinity BS 647940, three had carbines and two were located vicinity BS 647940,
one had a M-1, the other a bar. The VC were dressed in camouflaged utilities, helmets and weeds. The patrol took them under fire
immediately receiving approx. 400 rounds of fire in return. Patrol fired one Law, one M-79 round and 500 M-14 rounds at the VC.
Two VC were killed and one wounded. The patrol was unable to recover the bodies or the weapons because the remaining VC
covered the retraction of the bodies by fire at 21:00 hrs.

BS 627928. Patrol returned fire with two M-14 rounds and 20 M-60 rounds with negative results at 21:00 hrs.

Delta Co. Patrol reported at 15:40 hrs. vicinity BS 620935, receiving four rounds of carbine fire from one VCS, located vicinity
BS 628937. Patrol didn't return fire due to the distance involved at 21:00 hrs.

Delta Co. Outpost located at BS 606920 observed 2 VC at the bottom of hill from their position, Fired 3 rounds of Illumination
and observed the 2 VC, fired 3 rounds of M-14 and observed the 2 disappear into the brush. 19:45 hrs.

Delta Co. Patrol observed an estimated squad of VC in a semi circle formation at BS 629897 and BS 631897. Patrol fired on VC.
The VC were armed with 1 light or possible .30 cal. Machine Gun, and automatic carbines. The VC laid down a heavy volume of
fire on to our formation. Patrol fired 125 rounds of M-14 and 200 rounds of M-60 rounds, 1 VC was hit in the back and went down
& did not move. Patrol was unable to confirm the kill due to the heavy fire and the distance involved. The VC broke contact taking
the body with them. 11:50 hrs.

Delta Co. Reported that a Mr. Phu of NUOC MAN approched the Delta Co. Outpost and informed them that the security chief of
TRI BINH -1 had been killed by the VC last night, Mr. Phu further stated that the VC came out of the hills to the west of TRI BINH. 09:15 hrs.
