George Karakhanian "H" Co. 3rd B 7th Marines 1st Marine Division, dated 3/12/53 addressed to my grandmother regarding my dad's being wounded. He survived his injuries, but no longer fought on the lines. Went to Camp Pendelton where I believe he was an MP. Looking for anyone who may remember him. He's not well these days, and I though maybe some news from an old Marine buddy might be exciting for him. any info, please e mail me lizp724@aol.com. Thanks.

Comments: Greetings from Canada, I am the neice of Lealon Wimpee of San Jose, Calif. I have been aware that this past year his name has been re-submitted for the awarding of the Silver Cross for his brave action during the Korean War. I understand that there may be a presentation of this medal at the annual reunion of his division (? I'm not sure if that is the correct terminology) in Buffalo, NY,in September. If that is the case my husband and I would very much like to be there to help celebrate and honor him. He is quite modest about this and has been doing his best to discourage all us from "going out of our way"on his behalf. Because of this it has been difficult to get any information out of him. If there is going to be any formal recognition would you please let me know via my e-mail address. If there is any cost involved i.e. a dinner, please let me know and we will send a check in advance. I hope I am not asking the wrong people, but I have run out of ideas of how to find out about this. He is our hero and we are trulyproud of him, not only as he has served his country, but in how he has lived his life. He's been a great role model for all of us. I have enjoyed visiting your site in the past and will continue to check in from time to time. Thanks for your help. Sincerely, Arlene Barney

Comments: My dad served in the mountains of North Korea with the 7th marines. He enlisted at 17 and at 18 he was a lance corporal fighting the chinese. His name is Jesse Henry Jr. His nickname in his squad was "bunker". He returned from Korea and became a Jennings police officer and retired with 32 years of service. My brother joined the Navy. He originally wanted to join the Corp but our dad talked him out of that branch. I guess he didn't see to many sailors laying in the snow up where he was.

Comments: Enjoyed your page and you are thus far the only ones from Korea and the 1st. Marine Div. I have seen, However I am new at this. I served in Korea form Jul - 51 To Nov -52. I was a truck driver with D Co. 7th Motor Transport Battalion. I do believe that I made many trips to your outfit with food, ammo, gasoline, and just about every thing a Marine ever used. Some of my most horrible memories are, on more than one occasions, the back hauls I made from grave registration. Yet as much time as I spent on the MLR, including the hauling of prefab timbers for bunkers on out post Black, I probably had an easier time than most, and I know I was luckier than many.
