As a larger teen tinyrg to train down his weight, and a brother in-law to a soldier in Iraq right now I can help somewhat(not an expert though ;D)My tips for running: Treadmills work best for me. Even running surface, track distance, rate, and time. Move your arms in sink with the opposite leg. So left leg forward the same time as right arm forward. Bend your arms at a 90 degree angle and keep them at your sides with your back straight. Regulate and keep your breathing calm. For your knees and shins sake, warm up and stretch. Run as far as you can and relax, the next time , make yourself run a tiny bit further.Sit ups: For ab strength, hold a weight while you do sit ups and don't time yourself(gradually increase weight for progress). For ab endurance, do a normal sit up, flex your abs once, straighten your legs to the floor, pull them to your chest, flex your abs, and repeat.Pull ups: Extremely hard to master/pull of. Try slowly conditioning your arms with weights(bench press etc etc). Start with push ups.Brother in law's words: Smoking decreased my mile time(but its not good for long term health). A buddy of mine who was overweight had to get a skinny work out partner and do half as much extra, so when everyone did 50 push ups, big guy and skinny partner did 75. This happened until he was in shape. Don't fret about ******* *** at running because they start you small(run to that pole over there) and then gradually work you up to miles.
