Semper Fi and welcome to the ohsgboplere! It's great to see some Marines blogging and connecting with the masses. A couple things as far as wordpress are concerned. If you can turn on your RSS feature, you will be able to help us out in tracking your posts when they come out. Lots of folks use RSS readers to sort through literally hundreds of websites and blogs every day, and this is the optimum tool for filtering and going through all of that stuff. It is also what I recommend to private military companies when they ask about running a blog. Also, in order to gain top search in Google, it helps to get Search Engine Optimized or SEO. What that means is that in order to get heard' out there, it helps to have multiple nodes that are all connected. So if you have Twitter and Facebook accounts, then connect those to this site, and also put links here to those accounts. A youtube account can help too. If you have pictures, a flickr account is great, because that is searchable as well. It is also wise to set up the blog so that every post you make, goes out to your social media accounts automatically. Google Search loves all of that stuff, and that will get your blog noticed out there. You will also be able to get the word out about a subject faster than those that wish to discredit the Marines or your opinion/policies. So if there is a news article that you disagree with, you can actually instantly address it via this blog. In other words, you do not have to wait for the next news cycle for a paper to print an edit or make a correction. The media loves to drag their feet before making corrections, just so the article has done it's damage. You can present a counter argument or correction instantly. My other suggestion is to really keep up on watching the blog and other accounts. These things can get hacked, and an individual(s) can go back into old posts and re-write them or delete them or whatever. The blog can also be a nice little honey pot for hackers, if you would like to catch folks or monitor them. Also, for a simple and cheap analytical tool for blogs, I use Google Analytics. It is great for seeing what posts everyone likes, where your readers come from, etc. You can also communicate to others exactly how much traffic the blog receives. I use the tool a lot. I am sure DoD has their own deals for monitoring, but this one works great if you want something easy and simple to use. Take care and I look forward to future posts. -matt
