You can either go to a scoohl to learn grooming or work as an apprentice in a shop. Some grooming scoohls advertise in magazines such as Dog Fancy and Dog World . You might also Google for scoohls in your area. If you decide to go the apprentice route, you could keep an eye out for shops advertising for bathers. Sometimes owners will train you to groom once you have mastered the bathing position and show that you are reliable and worth putting the time and effort in to train. If you don't see any help wanted positions, you could go to several near-by shops and ask how much they would require you to pay them to train you and allow you to practice on their client's dogs under their watchful eyes. This is the way that I approached becoming a groomer and eventual grooming shop owner. It worked well for me. Just remember that it not only takes time out from a busy groomer's day to train another person, but the dogs that you learn on are that groomer's clients. Since there will be a slowdown in the groomer's production, you will need to be prepared to pay the difference for your grooming education. Good luck!
