Harvey Cox is a really inttreseing character. Especially in this vid.Cox speaks about Christ as though he were a Christian, and states that Christ would never preach about consumerism or material wealth being a positive. I think that's great. However, Cox goes onto say toward the end of the vid that we should never be so pretentious as to assume that we have the truth cornered. OK, that's not bad either I guess, but then what does that position do to Cox's argument about Jesus opposing consumerism. If Jesus is one means to an absolute truth, among many other means, then how can Cox be so certain that consumerism is so inherently wrong.I don't like consumerism, but I think that Cox's argument about the plurality of religions discredits his assumption toward Jesus denouncing consumerism as evil.In a pluralistic view, consumerism may be a philosophy just as valid as are the teachings of Christ.Still, a very valuable opinion to draw from. Cox's Fire From Heaven has been a work that I've greatly valued. I think I'll have a look at The Future of Faith.
