I think most people are capable of doing most things with a certain degree of mediocrity, should they be willing to sink enough time, effort, money, etc, into it. I think there are things you just enjoy doing more and get better at it because you enjoy doing it.The important thing is the value we attach to certain abilities. For the most part, society expresses value in dollar amounts. It values some pretty weird skills and invalidates others. For example, if you're good at knocking balls into gopher holes with a metal stick, you will never have to work again in your life. You can earn a billion dollars, have sex with hot tramps and return to your gated-community home to the wife and kids afterwards. Companies will pay you additional millions to stand in front of a camera and say Buy their shit! because they think people will do whatever you tell them to.Another example is the ability to look attractive while reciting words somebody else wrote for you. You can make millions of dollars by reading a few hundred words written by a guy who probably lives in a motel room. People will pick you up in limos and others will chase you down the street offering to have sex with you. Companies will also pay you big bucks to say Buy their shit! in front of a camera because they think people will do whatever you tell them to.Then there's the money changers. Nobody, not even they themselves, know exactly what it is they do. Something involving paper and computers. It's a lot like on-line poker. But it's so important that, even if they screw up and drag the entire world down into the gutter, they get paid billions in bonuses alone. They are so important, companies pay them to tell governments what to do and the government usually does it. I tell the government what to do all the time, but all they do is send agents to my house.Meanwhile, an insignificant skill like raising children to be healthy, happy, well adjusted, law abiding, responsible, productive, individuals is valued at absolutely nothing! In some places, it's actually illegal to charge for it. Even if you pass up gainful employment to preform this task and couple it with the volunteer job of maintaining a household, the most recognition you'll ever get is one or two thanks over your lifetime. Only Internet perverts will want to have sex with you. No company will pay you to say Buy their shit! because they know nobody pays attention to anything you say.3.) Would money or fame change you if your talnet lead you to ultimate financial success? A lot more people would get to hear me tell them to go fuck themselves. That's for sure.
