Lance Cpl. Matthew K. Serio, 21, of North Providence, R.I., died April 5, due to injuries received from hostile fire in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. He was an infantryman assigned to 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif.
Serio joined the Marine Corps Sept. 19, 2001. His personal awards include the Combat Action Ribbon, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Sea Service Deployment Ribbon.
Serio was deployed last year in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. This was his second deployment in support of OIF.
