Searching for info on LCpl William Mooers - KIA 1969 aflofty@gmail.com
Good evening,

My name is Andrew Loftesnes. I live in Arlington, Virginia.

My mom’s cousin, LCpl William Mathias Mooers (Billy) was KIA January 22, 1969 in Quang Nam Province, Vietnam while serving with H&S Co, 1/7. His platoon commander was 1st Lt. R.M. Garvin. I have a copy of the letter which Lt. Garvin wrote to Billy's parents, as well as the official KIA notification letter from the USMC.

I am writing a book to tell Billy's story, my family history, and the story of those he was with.

Currently I am conducting research, and trying to gather as much information as possible. To do so, I am interviewing members of my own family in person.

Of course, a massive part of this story is that of 1/7 in Vietnam. If possible, I would like to conduct interviews with Marines from that time, and gather copies of written documents which may help to tell their story. I am very interested in personal stories, as well as the official history of 1/7 in Vietnam.

A bit of background on myself. My dad was a career Marine, and served for 20 years. I myself was a rifleman in 2/7, and honorably left service in 2018 after 4 years. When I learned that Billy and I shared a regiment, it was obviously a moving moment.

As a fellow Marine, I want to say thank you to the Marines of 1/7 for your service to our country and Corps in Vietnam. Marines today strive to uphold the example of warrior ethos which all of you set.

I hope to hear from someone soon, and begin a dialogue on how I may be able to move forward with this project.

Thank you for your time, and have a happy New Year.

Semper Fidelis,

Lofty
