I received this request. If any of you have info please reply. My name is Stephanie Hanson and my father - Gary Norman Young - was a corpsman in Vietnam. He was killed in a medevac helicopter crash on 2/7/69 that occured approximately 7 miles NW of An Hoa in Arizona Territory. I've successfully tracked down the unit he was flying with - HMM-364 the Purple Foxes - and they have been really wonderful in helping me figure out what happened that day from the perspective of the helicopter unit. But for years, I've been searching for the grunt unit to try to find out the circumstances of what happened on the ground before the medevac was called in. Yesterday, another Vietnam veteran sent me unit diaries showing that it was 1/7 Alpha and Bravo company that were involved in the incident. My question to you is, were you in-country at this time and if so, do you possibly remember any events surrounding the crash? I know it's tough to pinpoint certain days with incidents, so maybe a further write-up of the events would help. We've got some information posted at: http://www.hmm-364.org/bartolina.html I would appreciate any information you are willing to share and/or any others who you might think would know of the events of this day. Thank you.
