Hello Marc, 35 years ago, I was known as Cpl. Dick Gualano. I served with S-2, H&S Co., 1-7 from Dec. 66 to Dec. 67. In Sept. 66, I was taken out of staging battalion and put into the first class of guys going through the vietnamese language program at Camp Pendelton. No one knew what we would do when we got to Viet Nam. I and another classmate of mine, Al Sells, wound up at 1-7 together, and we where assigned to work as scouts with two "chieu hois" named Chanh and Tam. Chanh and I went out with Delta and Alpha Companies, and Sells and Tam went with Bravo and Charlie. As far as I know, the four of us where the first "Kit Carson" teams. 1-7 was near Chu Lai at the time. About April, 67, 1-7 was moving north to the Da Nang area. Since my partner, Chanh, knew nothing about the new area, he was left behind, and I got a new partner, Cho (like the vietnamese word for dog). Cho was from a town called Hoi An. When he went home on a leave during the summer, he was wounded by some schrapnel, maybe from a grenade. Cho and I worked together until I became a "short timer" around November 1st. Then I went to live as a laison of sorts with an ARVN company that was near Delta's hill. I left the country in early December. I have seen Gus Pitsikoulis' message before and have tried to reply to him, but my message doesn't seem to get through. The thing I remember about him was his tape player and Mamas and Papas music. I have vague recollections of Underwood, Smith (wasn't he from Dallas?), Hernandez and the one-handed Chieu Hoi you called Hoang. I might even have some old pictures of them. I also remember a guy named Jerry Murphy who went back home in April,68 or so. I
