Comments: Good day to all. My name is Rebecca Korsak. I'm a Marine wife, 30 years, retired. My husband died this past March. Hope I'm not being repetative..I've been signing quite a few guestbooks. My husband served in the USMC 1964-68. He was in 2/7 Flames, a member of the "elete" Power Pack..and served 2 tours in Vietnam, 1966-68. He didn't know that he was living with Hepatitis C for 30 years. He got sick fall of 1998, was diagnosed by VA doctors Jan. 1999, he died 6 weeks later. We were told by a Dr. at the Syracuse VA that hep C was becoming a huge epidemic among Vietnam vets. Please pass the word... GET TESTED!! You can live a long life if you know what to do. If you drink alcohol, or do anything that lowers your resistance, hep c gets your liver real bad. I was married to him for 30 years, our son is 23, and we both test neg. for the hep. I guess the main way you can get it is through blood to blood contact. Being in a jungle situation, with cuts and scratches, soldiers are one of the highest r

Comments: Glad to have found this site. Been back in the World for thirty years now, yet thoughts of my tour are with me every day. Have wondered about some of the other Corpsmen, particularly: John A. Verrico, John Edgecomb, Tom Nakielski, John Oudschorn, Abe Lachman, Reinhart, Guthrie. Also have wondered about a corporal nicknamed "Gunny Ogle" Read a book called Brothers at Arms a few years ago, guy revisited Hill 10, was there, and Hill 37, Hill 65, Hill 55, and spent quite a few nights out on Hill 112. Though not a Marine, was always, and have always been treated like a brother. Welcome Home.

Roosevelt and I served in the same unit for a while until he was later transfer to the 2nd. Airwing. We both serviced with the 1st. 7th. 3th. Kilo Co. Comments: My brother CPL Verrell Daniel Stiles was killed during a class room instruction when an M-16 anti-personnel mine exploded. He and 12 other Marines were killed on March 28, 1967. He was in the 1st Marine Div., 7th Engrs., A Co., in DaNang. Does anyone out there know of this incident? Or anyone that might have been there? If so PLEASE-I need your help. I have been trying for 9 years to obtain a Purple Heart for my brother's honor. The governemnt says these 13 Marines are not deserving of this medal-due to this being an "accident" which I call an incident. Especially one that should not have been! If anyone can help me it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for your web site-we need more of this kind- and we need to be able to help each other.

Comments: My big brother was killed in an automobile accident in 1977. He was a USMC Cpl., a member of the first and third Marine divisions. He was stationed in Vietnam from May 1967 to May 1968. He served during February and March, 1968, as a forward artilery observer, participating in 28 combat patrols on the Perfume River near the besieged city of Hue. He exposed himself repeatedly to hostile fire as he peppered enemy positions with grenades and anti-tank weapons on 19 occasions. He received a Navy citation. The citation reads:"...he aided in hazardous rescue of three sailors who had abandoned a burning fuel boat under enemy fire. Immediately after each engagement Lance Corporal Didier directed friendly artillery onto the enemy positions with devastating accuracy. His courageous actions under hostile fire were in keeping with highest traditions of the United States Naval Service." I think my brother Mel died, never knowing the positive effects that he had on fellow soldier's lives. I hope he made a difference. My brother is hardly ever mentioned anymore. I would like to know if there is anyone who can give me some insight on these battles that I just talked about. My brother was suppose to be the only Marine "ever" to receive a Black Beret from the Navy for his actions. Can anyone substantiate the significance or insignigicance of this beret? I know that there were many brave men who had greater heroism than my brother, but he was my personal hero. Sincerly, Brent Didier

I have posted this message in hopes of hearing from a man named Fuqua who was shot in the stomach in December 7, 1968 during Operation Meade River. I also was wounded on that day and thirteen others were killed. All I know is Fuqua is from Tennesse. If you know him or have any other information about him, please e-mail me. Comments: Received the ONE SEVEN MARINES newsletter this last week and your e-mail address was included. The newsletter was indeed correct "Good stuff here and some nice music to enjoy!" Thank you for taking both your time and efforts to put this web page together, today I have been reveiwing your page for the better part of an hour and sure appreciate you taking me back to some of my yesterdays. I'm new to the internet, and still have to have my kid show me how to move about and find things, I'm sure glad he is at his Grandfather's this morning. The reason for that is I don't have hurry through your Web page and can go at my own pace and reflect as I travel back to years gone by. I went to the art portion of your web page and was duly impressed with your abilities, God did not chose that I should be one of those who can do artistic endeavors, but did grant me the ability to appreciate what is good art and you are an artist and I thank you for shareing your talents with me.

Comments: I served with Kilo 3/7 from Dec 67 to May 68 and my stomping grounds were mostly Hill 55, 37 and Liberty bridge. I served as the platoon grenadeer, and most of the time walked point. I was wounded on February 23rd '68 during Tet while on patrol. Subsequently, I was medi-vac'd back to the states by way of DaNang, Hospital Ship, Yakuska Japan, and then Oak Noll Naval Hospital. I have been looking for someone that was in or around the above areas during the time that I was there. The problem is like many of us that were there I have shut out many of the things that happened and can't remember names, etc. When I got back I tried hard to forget, and now I have finally started to cope the what happen and have been trying to reconstruct some of the things that happened. Based on what happend the day that I was wounded, I was to have received the Bronze. However, the citation never got into my records when I was medi-vac'd out. I have managed to write down what happened. But like I mentioned above I can't remember names. The squad leader received the Silver, and 2nd Purple Heart for what happened, and I was present on Hill 37 when he was awarded the Silver. I was told then by the Lt. of our platoon that I was to receive the Bronze. Now it has been 32 years and I have been told that unless I can find at least two individuals that can verify what happened, I may never receive it. It is only important to me because I was supposed to have received it and never did. Maybe now that I have been in contact with the Kilo 3/7 organization, I may run into someone who knows. The problem is that there were so many that did not make it back home, and then who will still remember. This is just one thing that has been unresolved from my tour there. If I can resolve this maybe then I can start to deal with other things. If I could find the Squad Leader who was wounded the day that I was and the Lt. this would go a long way in resolving this issue but I don't remember their names. I have been going to PTSD sessions finally and this has started me into the right direction to deal with what happened. Maybe someday I can have closure, but I feel that it may be some time before that happens. The closure will most likely come one step at a time, just like my dealing with it one day at a time. By the way my Home Page that I started hasn't been updated in over two years. That is about the time that I started getting bad, frequent flash backs, and some veteran friends of mine finally talked me into seeking help. Maybe I will be able to get my Home Page back into shape one of these days. Many of the links need to be updated and I have run across many that should be added. Also I found an error on your Page. Check out the Causulties link and where is looks like it should read POW not DOW. A little thing, but I thought that you might want to know about it. I have enjoyed all of your hard work, and just looking at some of your Page has been good for me. There was a time that I would not have been able to look at anything about Viet Nam for fear that it would bring back too much. Well I have bent your ear too long now. So I had better sign off for now. Semper Fi Mike

Comments: Dear Vic, It's an honor to sign your book and to have gotten to know you. The site is one of the nicest sites I've been on. A tribute to the Seventh Marines. I was with Communications Section of H & S Company, 2/7 from 1964 to December 18th, 1965 -- Harvest Moon got me. MOS 2571. A special rememberance to ALL those that didn't come back and to those that didn't come back in one piece -- especially Jack Swender (my partner from Kansas City, Kansas - KIA 12/18/'65) and Tom Wardrop III (from Huntington, Indiana - KIA 3/4/'66). One request, I am looking for George MacDonald (Private E-1 the last we knew and probably stayed that way) from San Francisco or that area. Kindly help find! One other request, when traveling through Wisconsin (I-94 EauClaire region) take a detour on Highway 10 East and go to Neillsville and see one of the (strike that) THE most beautiful memorial to 20th Century veterans in the United States -- The High Ground. It was created in memory of my partner, Jack, a Cpl. with H & S 2/7. You won't be sorry that you made the trip. Look it up on the net at WWW.THEHIGHGROUND.ORG. As they say in the the bean counter's music business, Semper Fiddle and thanks. Tom Miller Oh, I almost forgot -- also look at http://www.marzone.com/Art/Art.htm, and see Vic's (the host of this site you are on) art work.

After many years of battling the demons he brought home from Vietnam, on June 15,1999 he took his life. I have spent my whole life trying to learn as much about Vietnam as I could so I could understand and know my father. The history section was great. My father was the most patriotic man I know and was my hero. I will miss him more than I can say. On July 1st my father was buried in Arlington National Cemetary with full military honors. He has now found the peace he searched so desperatly for and could not find in this life. I would really like to hear from anyone who knew him. God Bless you all and may my Father Rest in Peace.

Comments: As a field music bugler for the 7th Marine Regiment I played morning and evening colors many a time at Camp Las Pulgas, Camp Pendelton, CA. I also was assigned as an Infantryman and Rocket Squadleader. I served in Headquarters, Bravo, Lima and Kilo Company and the 1st Marine Division Headquarters Security Platoon. I left a lot of buddy behind that I met from 1959 to 1962. What a rush to find this web site and be able to learn more about a tradition that continues to live and be able to review who made it after I left. Semper Fi..

Comments: I fought in Viet Nam with KILO 3/7 from 1966 -1967. Until recently, I had no idea that there was a Web Site like this one. I am now using this new found information in hopes of locating some of the men that served with me. I have been able to locate my squad leader because someone cared enough to locate me. I have suffered from the horrors and emotional scars that Viet Nam left in my life, but I have experienced some relief and healing through being able to share these pains and experiences with another veteran who served along side me in that hell-hole called Viet Nam. Keep up the good work. Semper Fi!!!!

Comments: You have some kind of talent, Victor. And a most excellent and eclectic site. A few comments: 1) I just realized that the map which includes Hill 52 on my site, forwarded to me by Terry Dixon, came from you. I love it. I have a paper black and white version but would like to know where I can get a color one. It has helped me and a couple of other folks, notably one from Kilo 3/5 who operated off that hill. I thank you very very much. 2) Also thanks for including us on your links. I'm going to add yours to mine, next tuesday. Also I'm starting up an India 3/5 site on my company's server at http://207.244.249.66/india35. 3) The graphic you designed for Debbe Reynolds, about Tom Price, was outstanding! 4) Scared the hell out of me with your "What's in your PC?". How do you do that? I am going to be more careful about the sites I visit henceforth. 5) You put some feeling into your fall artwork. I had an emotional reaction to it...not describable...but I could feel it. Maybe I can describe it, nostalgia mixed with sadness, yet comforting...I don't know, that's a poor description but the best I can do. Semper Fi, Ed McCurry, H&S 3/5, Whiskey 2 81s, '70.

Comments: I was surprised at Hill 55!! I was there in late 65 early 66 and there was only some 4.2 mortar pits there and I was in a H-6 Amtrac. Has a 105 howitzer on top. It was a trouble area then, and remote. As I remember a Lt Col stepped out of his jeep and was killed by a booby trap. There was a memorial sign post planted there. The Amtrac E-1s came up and then cleared all of the mines. It was a spooky place on hill 55 and as I recall there was a river at the bottem of the south side where we could get cleened up. Good Page!! M. Folkerts M/Sgt USMCR (Ret.)

I am publishing short biographical sketches on each man to accompany the Traveling Vietnam Memorial on its visit to our city.
