Comments: Great site! Served with India 3/7 9-20-69 to 8-17-70. WIA 9-23-69 Hill 327 Que Son Mountains! What a break! Three days in country on my third tour and I became a guest at 1ST Med BN! The BN Commander, LtCol. Kumrow and over 100 other 7TH Marines were guest with me. 9-20-69 I arrived at LZ Baldy with other 7TH Marines to relieve the Americal Div. in the Que Son Valley! We were fired upon by VC Snipers that were inside the wire! A Marine killed them with an M-79 while the proud members of the Americal Div. watched from their fighting holes! I also worked with the 7TH Marines in 65/66 on Operation Starlite and Harvest Moon. The 7TH Marines and 4TH Marines worked togather a lot during my tours in Nam and I must say these were the best WARRIORS that have and will ever HUMP the trails in any combat zone!! GOD BLESS all of them!! Semper FI!!

Our battery was in a general support role for the 7th Marines, and fired many thousands of rounds without killing a Marine with "friendly" fire. I would like to hear from any of the men who served with me, so that I can try to set up a battery reunion. My address is 620 Congress Ave. Ste 200, Austin, Texas. Phone (512) 708-1250; fax 708-0519. Comments: Served with Bravo 1/3 and was sent "down South" when they went back to the world. Ended up as the 81 FO for Echo 2/7. Arrived in late September of 69. It started raining then and never stopped until I was medivac for malaria in late November. After quick hospital stay and a week in Sydney on R&R became the "senior ammo humper" for 81 platton til I rotated in Jan 70. Would like to hear from anyone who was there during that time. Especially would like to hear from our CO who stepped on the booby trap in Antenna Valley. I promised you were going "back to the world", Skipper, I sure hope I didn't lie.

I was a good friend of SSgt Larry McMahon who was killed at the same time as Top. In fact, SSgt McMahon and I flew from Dong Ha to Danang together when I was leaving country in Sept 66, just before they were killed. I haven't had contact with any of the Marines I was with in 2/7 from May 66-Sept 66. Any communications from Captain Ted Uyeda, Sgt Gary Best and the other members of Comm Company?

My tour was from May 67 to June 68. On Nov 1st, I had retired as a CW0 4 US Marine Corps Reserve. Today, I am a practicing CPA (love those 1040 returns) Many times I think about Hill 55, Hill 65, An Hoa, and Mike Company 3rd Bn, 7th Marines. Remember our friends who did not come back.

During one of these operation he recieved injuries and was awarded the Purple Heart. He is now getting the run around from the V.A. because his medical records cannot be found. His name was LTC Joseph Eugene MUIR from O'side, CA. He was a Marines Marine. The Hill Site (#55) was later named Camp MUIR. I was a FTL, there, then, and a Rifleman In Kilo 3/3. We wore stateside utilities, blk lthr boots and had no flak jkts. Every time we crossed "The River" we died. That's where I learned to "never make friends, or get to know anyone too well personally". After getting out of the hospital I ended up at the Regimantal Aid station with the 7th Marines until I rotated home in November 67. After 33 years I thought I should try and connect with old friends from a terrible but very rewarding time in my life. If I connect I hope it will be a good thing. If I do not connect so be it because it was never meant to be. We were so young and full of life back then. For those of us who are still alive to think back and still talk about it, I think we should be thankful while not forgetting those who are no longer with us.

Comments: Just thought I'd share the words of Lieutenant Commander Tim Lantz, CHC, USN, as he read the Invocation for the launching of OSCAR AUSTIN: "Almighty and Eternal Father; we pause a moment in time where engineering science, shipbuilding craft, heroic personal sacrifice, and the hopes and prayers of Thy people all converge, to implore Thy blessing upon this ship. May all who have labored in her design and construction enjoy inner satisfaction of a work skillfully and faithfully done. May each of us cheerish the rememberance of the heroic, young Marine, Private First Class Oscar P. Austin, whose name and memory will grace this ship: how he honored our nation with his faithful service; how he courageously entered the fray of battle to rescue another; how he committed the surpreme sacrifice in the name of liberty. As we christen OSCAR AUSTIN, we commend her and all who will serve aboard her to Thy guidance and watchcare. Grant that she be used ever in the pursuit of peace and the defense of freedom. And grant that her officers and crew may serve with devoted honor, sacrificial courage, and perserving commitment to all that is worthy. To these requests we add our supplications for the President of the United States and all in civil or military authority. We ask Your blessing, also, upon all those who serve in the Armed Forces of our nation, especially those to be found in troubled places in perilous times. Uphold, preserve, and protect each one with knowledge of Thy love and grace. Finally, may we too be found forever faithfull to You, to our country, to our shipmates, and to our best selves. I pray in the name of Jesus, Who taught us, "Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one's life for his friends"....and Who laid down His life for us all. Amen."

Comments: On Saturday, November 7, 1998, Bath Iron Works launched the guided missile destroyer OSCAR AUSTIN (DDG 79). The ship's namesake, Private First Class Oscar P. Austin, USMC, served as an assistant machine gunner with Company E, Second Battalion, Seventh Marines, First Marine Division (Rein), FMF. The ship's crest carries the motto "HONOR AND SACRIFICE", and is in keeping with the tradition of Pfc Oscar Austin's indomitable courage and selfless devotion to duty, when he gave his live to save a fellow Marine on the 23rd of February 1969. The ship's sponsor, Mrs. Dianne F. Reason, is the wife of Admiral J. Paul Reason, USN, Commander in Chief of the U.S. Atlantic Fleet. The Matron of Honor was Mrs. Mildred Austin, mother of Oscar Palmer Austin. The Maid of Honor was Miss Monique E. Hart, niece of Pfc Ocsar Austin. At approximately 1507 hours, Mrs. Reason broke the ceremonial bottle of champagne on the bow and christened the good ship OSCAR AUSTIN. The ship slid gallently down the ways and into the water amidst cheers from the spectators who had gathered to witness the triumphant event. We the crew of OSCAR AUSTIN are proud of the Marine Corps heritage that ship embodies. Semper Fi.******************** We are searching for any Marines who may have served with Pfc Oscar Austin. Pass the word, if you know anyone from the Magnificent 7th who served in Da Nang in 1969, please ask them to e-mail us at the above address. Very Respectfully, CWO2 Robert E. Peterson, USN

Comments: Hi to all fellow Marine's and Welcome Home. I was with the 1/1 1st engineers in Nam from 11/66 to 12/68. I'm hoping to find some of the fellow Marines that were there with me. If you were there please e-mail me. I would like to get enough of us together for a reunion. I lost all of their addresses shortly after I got out in 1968 and have looked for everone since then. No luck so far but I will keep trying "never give up". Hey Marine if you see my name and think you were with me in Nam write it may be a start!!!!!!! Thanks to all and God Bless for bringing some of us home Mike

I often ask why was I spared ? Veterans Day is the worst I promised never to forget and God knows that I couldn't even if I wanted to. but what about the ones we left behind ? ?? I think about them a lot but nobody seems to care anymore O well it was good to talk and see maybe somebody still does care . Thanks BLU Semper Fi

Comments: I am now a practicing lawyer in Toronto. But during my university days in Boston I spent much time studying U.S. foreign policy and particularly, the Vietnam War. In graduate school it was my primary focus. During my time in the States I met several Vietnam vets including my best friends father. He retired from the Army as a Colonel. He served in WWII, Korea and 2 terms in Vietnam. He spent many hours telling me of his experiences. This past weekend, I went to a friend's wedding in Windsor. In the time since I graduated from law school there, they have erected a memorial to those Canadians who fought and died in Vietnam. I'm very interested to know more about the Canadians who fought there. Where in Canada are you from? What made you decide to go into the Marines out of High School? Where did you enlist? What did you do after your service? Were you wounded? If you have a chance, I'd love to commmunicate with you. Conor O'Hare

Comments: Vic, I appreciate your responding to my visit to your web site and am glad that I was able to provide some info on a member of the 7th MarDiv that you did'nt have on PFC Roberts. It is a shame that he never had a real life in the world. While at LZ Baldy I had spent much of a day talking to a medivac pilot. Later that day they flew out on a medivac and were shot down and all on board were killed. His body was brought back to Baldy the follwing day and I remember looking at his body and thinking of the things we had talked about and what his wife was doing right then and that she wouldn't even know he was dead. I've felt bad since because I can't remember his name. He was a neat guy for an officer. Thanks again for having this place where we can look around and remember when we were young. Hope you dont mind an "airwinger" attaching himself to the 7th. I did get to fly as a gunner on H-46's out of marble mtn for a while. Maybe I got to help you'll out sometimes. Take care and Semper Fi.

Comments: I am surfing on behalf of my friend and pastor, Rev. Michael W. Hicks, 2/7 "G" '66-'67 (also served a second tour, the details of which I cannot recall). A great man whom I respect deeply; a man of honor, integrity, and strength. A good friend and a great man of God. But what else from a Marine? He is new to the internet, amazed by its connecting power, and I told him about this site and he is excited about connecting up with his brothers-in-arms. I've installed a couple of computers at our church, and he'll be surfing here soon - until then, if you know him or want to contact him, email me at "rodgers@eznet.net" and I will pass it along (privately, if you wish) to him. This is an incredible site, very informative and moving, especially with the music. THANK YOU all for your service for me. - Bruce Rodgers, age 37. I live in freedom due to your service for America.

This web site has opened a lot of closed corridors in my mind and brought back many good and bad memories ----- but most were of the continuing healing type of memories. I served with the 1rst Battalion, 7th Marines, Bravo Company first in Chu Lai and then in Da Nang. [1966 - 1967] I was in charge of the Radio and Telegraph and Land Line Communications for 'Battling Bravo' and accompanied them on all of their operations and patrols into the 'bush'. Thanks for the great work! Tom {Skin} Flynn Tiger Papa 3 Visit Tim Duffie's CAP site @ http://w3.one.net/~timd/cap

Comments: Nice site! I was in the Marines from 1965 to 1974. I left after nam was over, since I was not a spit and polish type. I was a 2336 (EOD), although I spent my first tour with Ammo Platoon at 327 in April 1966 to May 1967. I was shot in August of 1966 between Danang and Phu Bai while on Security Platoon. Serial number 2147724. Funny somethings you never forget --that number being one of the many. You know what I mean? My second tour I was with EOD at Danang Air Base. I lived like a King except when planes came back shot all to hell with ordnance hung on them, and we had to disarm them. Still all considered, was not bad. At least we did not loose any one on that tour. Well enough about that--anyway nice site and FYI one of my best friends was killed with D/1/7 his name was Robert Blackfox. Semper Fi Marine!!!
