Michael McAninch, [Third Marine on the right, photo taken on Hill 55] was KIA on the 28th of August, 1969 by enemy mortar fire while defending his men.

He lost his life while participating in the latter stages of the joint Marine Corps and USA Hiep Duc Valley Counterattack. Michael was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for his courageous efforts on that fateful day. He will always be Remembered.
